11/13/2008 - Susan Colbeck Breast Cancer Survivor
Our mother Susan Colbeck was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. She has a long and difficult road ahead, but we know that the breast cancer affecting her has no clue as to what it is up against in dealing with our mom. It is an understatement to say our mother Susan is a fighter and warrior when it comes to dealing with any problem, conflict or competition. Vince Lombardi would be proud of her "Winners Attitude" when it comes to life. No obstacle in the past has ever slowed her down. She doesn’t quit or give up until the task is done and the outcome is in her favor.
Having said this, we also recognize that she is the most compassionate person we have ever known. She always favors the underdog, mistreated and downtrodden and frequently offers help to total strangers in need. Our mom has no problem giving her last dollar to help some one less fortunate. My sister Laura and I, through our mother’s encouragement and determination have been involved in dance, gymnastics and cheerleading since we were 3 years old. By instilling in us confidence, determination and the value of hard work, she has taught my sister and I that we can achieve most anything in life.
In September of this year, we opened up our new 6700 square foot athletic facility for Capital Cheer All-stars, (3125-B, Pine Tree Rd in Lansing) mid Michigan's only dedicated cheerleading facility. Our mother Susan, having just been diagnosed with breast cancer and recovering from her lumpectomy – was right by our side helping us move in and set up. Ironically, Capital Cheer All Stars was already involved with fundraising to support the fight against breast cancer before my mother’s diagnosis. Now we have made this fight a part of our business. Through donations and fundraising for Breast Cancer, our business can now offer a constant reminder to women of all ages to be aware, to be vigilant and help support the quest for a cure.
